About Dr. Stock

Dr. Mark J. Stock is Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership at the University of Wyoming.  Prior to moving to higher education Dr. Stock was a school administrator in Indiana.  He has been an elementary teacher, elementary principal, curriculum director and superintendent and has even lived to tell about it!

His expertise has centered around helping schools and school districts analyze and use their data.  His most recent work has been helping teachers and administrators learn how to communicate using data and data displays. He currently consults with a number of school districts to help them in this endeavor.

Dr. Stock was also one of the few superintendents to utilize blogging as a tool for communicating and connecting with the local community.  His blog site “The Wawascene” routinely received 2,000 to 7,000 hits per day.

He recently released a new book titled, “The School Administrator’s Guide to Blogging” in an effort to make school people more aware of the potential for this medium.

He says, “If you don’t blog to them they will just blog about you!”

The old mantra was, “You don’t argue with those who buy their ink by the barrel.  The new mantra is, “Everyone has a barrel of ink so you better have one too!!”

Dr. Stock’s research interests are focused on principal mentoring and the relationship between principals and instructional facilitators (instructional coaches).  He recently was awarded the Mary Garland Early Career Fellowship at the University of Wyoming.  This award goes to a promising junior faculty member for the purpose of establishing a research agenda.

Dr. Stock resides outside of Laramie, Wyoming with his wife and two children.
